MCC's Newest Major--Allied Health Pre-Professional

Middlesex County College has created a new degree and certificate--Allied Health Pre-Professional. They will be a wonderful addition to MCC's variety of degree and certificate programs.

These programs provide students with an opportunity to develop knowledge and experience in varied areas of laboratory science for use in Allied Health Programs. They will also allow students to obtain financial aid while completing preparatory work for admission into the competitive Health Technology programs, and give students addititonal options to consider when making a decision to pursue a degree or certificate in the fields related to the health care industry.

Students who successfully complete the program will have a strong science background as an advantage in seeking entry level employment in Allied Health positions. Additionally, agreements are in development for transfer to UMDNJ and Fairleigh Dickinson University.

If you are a student who is OCNUR or OCDH or OCRAD or OCRST or OCMD, please consider changing your major to this new program, AHPP.AS. If you are a Liberal Arts or Biology Pre-Professional major and want to pursue admission to one the competitive Health Technology programs, please consider changing to AHPP.AS. There is no charge for the change of major

MCC's Honors Program

Are you aware that Middlesex County College has an Honors Program? Dr. Mathew Spano and Prof. Donna-Marie Gardner are the Co-Directors of the Honors Program.

A student must meet one of the following criteria:

• Entering, first-year students must have a minimum combined score of 1200 (Math 600 and Critical Reading 600 of higher) AND no developmental courses OR a cumulative GPA of 3.5 of a 4.0 grading scale (high school) AND no developmental course requirements


• Current MCC and transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher after the completion of 12 college credits and the completion of all developmental coursework.
  

The Honors courses for Fall 2011 are BIO 105-H, BIO 123-H, ENG 253-H, MAT 131-H, POS 225-H, PSY 123-H, SOC 121-H, and SOC 131-H.

What is Non-Compliance?

Some students may receive an email notifying them that their schedule needs to be adjusted because of Non-Compliance. Here is a brief overview of this academic situation.

If students were unsuccessful in a developmental course, the course that comes after it (MAT 014 after MAT 013 or MAT 013S/MAT 013, for example) cannot be taken. The unsuccessful course must be repeated. Please remember that a developmental course receiving a "D" must be repeated.

Additionally, ENG 121 and 122 both need a grade of at least a "C" for graduation. A student cannot register for ENG 122 if he/she received a "D" in ENG 121.

Most students are confused about the prerequisite for MAT 129 (Precalculus). Students can take the one-semester version (MAT 129) if they receive a grade of "B" or higher in MAT 014. However, a grade of "C" or "C+" or "B-" in MAT 014 places the student in MAT 129A (the two-semester version).

Students are notified of Non-Compliance at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters and the first summer session. These students are told to adjust their schedule by a designated date. If the course schedule is not changed by that date, the schedule is changed without any input from the student. Please visit the Advising Center with any questions about Non-Compliance.

Criminal Justice has one feature, however, that makes it unique among MCC majors. Students must complete two GE Mathematics courses or two GE four-credit science courses. Please note that this is an either/or situation and that if the science option is chosen, the GE sciences must be four-credit courses. If the math sequence is chose, the College recommends MAT 123 and 124.
